Physical and Occupational Therapy

Keeping you Safe, independent, and mobile throughout your MS journey

Increasing Independence Through Rehabilitaion

At IMSMP, rehabilitation and preventative services are provided by licensed physical and occupational therapists. Our rehab services focus on individualized matters related to musculoskeletal and neurologic systems, as well as cardiovascular and integument (skin) problems that may hinder a person’s ability to be active and independent.

At the initial evaluation, we assess for impairments that are affecting an individual’s ability to function independently and optimally. Each person has different functional needs and desires, so treatment sessions are prescribed to effectively and safely maximize function.

All rehab services are 1:1, individualized sessions which may include therapeutic exercises, balance training, gait training, fall prevention/recovery techniques, neuromuscular re-education, and/or daily task adaptations and modifications. Your treating therapist will provide you with any recommendations and/or home exercise program as discussed in the session.

At IMSMP, we have world-class spaces and equipment to utilize during treatment sessions:

  • 7 different types of AFOs
  • The Cionic neuro sleeve and hip flexion devices, available for trial
  • State-of-the-art Vector bodyweight support system, used for high level gait and balance training and practicing fall recovery technique.
  • Demo/practice bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, stairs, ramps and curbs to simulate real life situations in the home and in the community.
  • Walkers and adaptive equipment for daily tasks to test and see what works best for the individual

FAQ

What is the difference between PT and OT?

Physical therapy (PT) ensures that someone can safely get from point A to point B.

Occupational therapy (OT) ensures they can do the functional things they desire when they arrive.

Both PT and OT work towards maximizing safety and independence throughout daily tasks. At IMSMP, we make goals alongside our patients to ensure we have a clear objective for what we want to accomplish throughout the evaluation and treatment sessions.

What sort of devices and equipment do you have?

We have an array of devices for people to test during appointments! Each person who comes to the rehab department is evaluated to find the right fit for them. Device categories include ambulation, wheeled mobility, bracing, dressing, feeding and more.

Our department can work with people of all different abilities, ranging from runners to assistive device users to wheelchair users, and everyone in between.

Does the rehab department accept insurance?

Our rehab department participates with most Medicare plans. Private insurance plans are considered out-of-network. No matter what insurance you have, please check with our office prior to your appointment to understand your personal coverage for PT and OT services.

Do you offer any group exercise classes?

We have multiple group exercise classes led by members of the rehab department. All classes are seated and are adapted to accommodate participants' unique abilities. Classes focus on upper extremity and core strengthening, stretching, and providing education on how and why certain exercises are beneficial.

Please call the office to learn more about the class options and to see if a group class is right for you.

When are appointments available?

The rehab department sees patients Monday through Thursday 9-5, Fridays 9-4 and select Saturdays. Please call the office to find availability and to make an appointment.
