Cognition Care

Assess, treat, and analyze changes to your cognitive health with our in-house Cognition Specialist.

Protect What Matters Most

Up to 65% of MS patients experience cognitive changes. Determining what changes are caused by MS, which are the result of normal aging, and what individuals can do to mitigate these changes is a priority at IMSMP.

IMSMP's in-house cognitive specialist, Dr. Stavra Romas, is a Princeton, Columbia, and Penn State-educated neurologist and behavior analyst specializing in the evaluation and treatment of cognitive changes in MS. She uses cognitive evaluation tools to assess and track cognitive changes over time, and can make recommendations to help preserve cognitive function.

You may benefit from seeing Dr. Romas if:

  • You're experiencing brain fog
  • You have trouble focusing
  • You want to establish a baseline to track cognitive changes
  • You'd like to promote lifelong brain health
  • You're feeling confused about a new cognitive symptom

FAQ

What happens at a baseline cognitive screening?

The baseline screening appointment is approximately two hours long. Dr. Romas will meet with you to review your medical history and complete a series of standardized neuro-psychological tests. Once your results have been analyzed, you'll meet again for a 1:1 interpretation session. Dr. Romas will share her findings with you, make recommendations, answer any questions you may have, and help coordinate any applicable next steps.

Who can participate in cognitive screenings?

Anyone! In fact, we recommend all new patients receive a baseline screening. Baseline screening appointments take approximately two hours and do not require any physical activity.

What is the benefit of cognitive screening?

Cognitive screening provides baseline cognitive health data for you and your MS care team to reference over time. Having this data helps accurately track changes over time.
